Device Summary

Novell Tested for Data Synchronizer Mobility Connector?   No
Ease of Setup   Average
Email   Fully Supported
Contacts Fully Supported
Calendar   Supported with Limitations

OS Requirements:

With 1.5 and above you must use a third party app like Touchdown to sync. You can also use the altered OS CyanogenMod, which has native Active Sync Support.

Setup Instructions

Basic instructions on getting your Mobility Pack running on your G1 device:

(During configuration, explicitly select "ActiveSync (Only)", since this is not only the correct protocol, but even trying to test the other protocols froze my app.)

1. Make sure that your Mobility Pack server is up and running and you have the following information:

  • Server address
  • Port (if non-standard)
  • Whether the server requires a secure connection or not

2. You will need to download an application call "Touchdown".

  • Once you have this application downloaded and installed on your device, click on the "Touchdown" button.

3. There will be a row of buttons along the bottom of the screen. Click on the Tools button (there is a picture of some tools on it and it is the last button on the right).

4. On the "Account" tab, it will prompt you to enter in the required information.

  • For "Connection Mode", choose "Active Sync Only".
  • You must also enter in your Login ID, Email Address, and Password.
  • After you have entered the needed information, click "Save".

5. On the "Connection" tab, it will prompt you enter in server information.

  • Enter the Server Name
  • Select BOTH check-boxes, one is "Uses SSL" and the other is "Fetch and trust certificate".
  • After you have done this, click "Save" to save your settings.
  • Click "ActiveSync..." to start syncing your device.

6. Your G1 device should now start syncing all the items that you selected. Go to mail, calendar, or contacts to view the synced items.

SSL Considerations

  • DigiCert and VeriSign certificates work great. Just be sure, like with other SSL Certificate providers, that you configure the server to send the intermediate certificates needed to chain up to the trusted root.
  • If the server does not have a trusted certificate attached to it, you can open the "Connection" tab of the Configuration portal, and select "Fetch and trust certificate (not recommended)". I enabled this in order to use it with my system.
