Disable NetworkManager Checking if running SUSE Cloud on a Laptop

If you are running your SUSE Cloud on a single laptop and your using NetworkManager then you will need to disable the ifup checking since you will want to create vlans outside of the NetworkManager scope for your setup.

In order to do this you will need to follow these steps.

1. make a backup copy of your ifup script

 # copy /sbin/ifup /sbin/ifup.orig

2. edit /sbin/ifup with editor of your choice
3. comment out the following lines in /sbin/ifup

#######################################################################
# Check if NetworkManager is running, inform the user and exit
#
if [ "$NETWORKMANAGER" = yes ] && ! netcontrol_running ; then
	if [ "$SCRIPTNAME" != ifdown -a "$INTERFACE" != lo ] ; then
		mesg "Network interface is managed by the NetworkManager ->
skipping"
		exit $R_NOTIMPL
	fi
elif nm_running && [ "$INTERFACE" != lo ] ; then
	mesg "Network interface is managed by the NetworkManager -> skipping"
	exit $R_NOTIMPL
fi

4. Save the file and exit

Your now ready to start vlans and other network devices outside of NetworkManager
